Shout out Friday

Children's songs......

As a child, I never noticed that the music I listened to was weird. But these last few months, as a Mother, what were people thinking? I don't mind reliving the black plaque with "ring around the rosies" or Yankee doodle getting "handy" with the girls. Although Grant did ask me what that meant. Hilarious. But what about "my bonnie" lying over the ocean? Nathan asked why Bonnie had to die over the ocean. I know the someone in the kitchen with Dina is a locomotive, but only if you looked it up on Wikipedia. Otherwise, it could be a lot worse. Or losing your "lover" by courting too slow? I thought it was about a mountain of meatballs. And that annoying song that never ends. It was obviously NOT created by someone with kids. You can't get to Heaven on roller skates. Don't get me started on that one. Since when did I get so anal as to screen my kid's "children's" music?

I felt that way about Rock a Bye Baby. And down will come baby? Cradle and all? We sing that to our babies? That the baby falls down with the cradle?

I agree with Rochelle! I NEVER ever sang that song Rock a Bye Baby. I think that was the first time that I started thinking that all these "cute" nursery songs were really just horrible euphemisms. And Ring around the Rosies? Gross. This post gave me a good laugh! And I never really thought about the spaghetti song...
